Christian Texts and History • Basilides on the ambiguous relation between YHWH and Jesus

It seems that according to Basilides, Jesus had to be the son of YHWH, since only in this way Jesus could convert YHWH himself, by sitting at his side after the crucifixion.

The Gospel then came, says (Basilides), first from the Sonship through the Son, that was seated beside the Archon, to the Archon, and the Archon learned that He was not God of the universe, but was begotten.

From the point of view of YHWH, the creator used the mere seed sent by the supreme god (not YHWH) without knowing the origin of a such seed, to generate Jesus.

There is something in this ambiguous relation between YHWH and Jesus (where the former creates the latter, and the latter is yet more powerful than the former) that makes me think about the ambiguous relation between John the Baptist and Jesus in Mark, where John the Baptist is apparently more powerful than Jesus (by baptizing him), and yet the latter is "more strong" than John the Baptist.

Judging from the way Hyppolitus insists on the Aristotelic influence on Basilides, in particular on the Aristotelic speculation about the composition of body and soul, the inference is correct that the real Basilides insisted very much on the idea that Jesus was in the same time a creature of the demiurge (YHWH) and someone stronger than the demiurge himself via the pre-existent seed used for the his creation by the demiurge himself (a seed coming not from YHWH).

I have not found in Hyppolitus traces of the Jesus laughing at the cross, yet.
