I think the view that there really were people in the first century who honestly believed that they saw the resurrected Jesus and that we need to explain why they believed that in some way could be construed as the last remnant of German rationalism a la Paulus. It seems wildly misaligned with how Classicists treat all the other cases of divine translation that Miller discusses. In none of the cases involving a bodily disappearance do Classicists worry about where the body went. In none of the cases involving post-translation appearance do Classicists wonder what the people in question actually saw. I don't need a theory explaining the "empty chest" left behind by Cleomedes' heroization...
