Christian Texts and History • The Problem of someone who was also closely related to the tetrach

After a lot of consideration and close examination of the Pauline corpus for many years (about 20),... I concluded that Paul (...) was a retainer of a Herodian prince, either he or his father having been manumitted gentile slaves.
This is known to be untrue: Paul was raised with Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrach.

And manumitted slaves don't rate an escort of 70 cavalry and two hundred soldiers and two hundred spearmen, when he's taken into Roman protective custody to go to Cæsarea. Someone who grew up with the son of the tetrach might, but someone who was also closely related to the tetrach is more likely.

Herod may have considered himself Judean, but it's not clear to me that any of the Hebrews accepted his "conversion". If Paul was closely related to the tetrach, it would apply to him too. The Herodians were in league with the Pharisees, but I don't see anyone else who would ally with them, perhaps because they were Idumeans. It's an important point; Idumean's are considered to be a source of trouble to this day.

Marcion was a mover and shaker: he "found" the first Faulines letters, assembled the first canon by combining them with his version of Luke. Then he founded the biggest church in Christendom for over 100 years - perhaps his was the very first Early Christian megachurch!

Maybe it's starting to make sense to me why today'a evangelical megachurches are purely Marcionism...
