Yes, but the question is, did someone take an original text that read, "Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry. He was the son of Joseph," and then simply (and lazily) just add in , "so it was thought". I mean, that's what it looks like. Is there any evidence to support that?
IMO the progression is like this:

Jesus descendant of David (Paul, Mark, John) -> Jesus son of Joseph who was descendant of David (proto-Matthew/proto-Luke) -> Jesus, born of virgin and NOT son of Joseph who was descendant of David (our Matthew/Luke).

The genealogy was important to the Jewish Christians, but became irrelevant once it expanded into the Gentile world.
