I am going to doubt about this precise point, insofar I am going to translate and understand better in my native language, as much as possible, Bruno Bauer's Criticism of the Pauline Epistles.Consider the following, all of which is disputed, some more than others:
- Paul wrote several letters in the mid-first century.
Only a recent example, found during the my process of translation of the tome 1 on Galatians:
- Before the Christians are considered 'sons of God' in virtue of mere predestination:If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
(Galatians 3:29)
- ...while after (contradiction!), the same Christians become 'sons of God' in virtue of the divine grace:4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
(Galatians 4:4-5)
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
There would be no need for a genuine Paul to do so, i.e. copying badly in Galatians a theological argument from a different epistle (Romans).
