Christian Texts and History • The author of the first Gospel corrected Josephus about Pilate

Pilate is the only known Roman governor who was obliged to abdicate in virtue of the pression exercised by a local senate at the Imperial court.

If this detail derived the attention of the author of the first gospel, then the Gospel mention of Pilate inter alia is part and parcel of the convoluted way the Christians wanted to exonerate the Romans for a crucifixion that on the earth could be euhemerized only as a Roman crucifixion.

I.e., Pilate was the Governor who crucified Jesus because Pilate was the notorious victim of the pression by a local lobby: the Jewish senate.

(Also with the incident of the signs, Pilate was someway victim of the pression by the local people).

Really Josephus himself wanted that Pilate was remembered as symbol of a tyranny punished legally by the his persecuted people by appealing pacifically to the higher justice of Caesar (as distinct from an armed rebellion).

In opposition to Josephus, the first gospel made Pilate the symbol of a good ruler being pressed by the his own subjects for an evil cause.
