Note Date:
In Oppin, in the northern Saalekreis, archaeological excavations are currently taking place in advance of the expansion of the DC power line SuedOstLink. An extremely interesting burial of a man aged approximately 40 to 60 years has been uncovered. The deceased was found squatting on the left side facing east, with his head to the north. No grave goods were found in the tomb, but based on the position of the deceased, it can be assumed that the grave was created in the Bell Beaker culture at the end of the Neolithic period. In the lower part of the grave pit, excavators discovered a stone measuring 100cm long, 50cm wide, and 10cm thick, which lay over the bent legs of the deceased. It must be assumed that the stone was placed there for a specific reason, possibly to keep the deceased in the grave and prevent his resurrection. © LDA Saxony-Anhalt, A.
