I do not think that the sentence above with "then it is sure" is at all sure.
One can refer to a work of any date without giving full information.
One can react to a person by personal acquaintance.

Apocalypse of John on Ephesus on "those who call themselves apostles but are not" may be a negative reference to Paul.
