The blunt epilogue in 16:8 (insinuation that Peter was left to himself) sounds so blatantly ad hoc against Peter, that it is impossible that Mark didn't know about an alternative epilogue from a previous gospel, one where Peter or some other of the 12 was privileged by revelations from the risen Christ.
