Christian Texts and History • Could the “goad” in Ecclesiastes 12:21 refer to the board of a yoke rather than a goad?

12:11 The words of the wise are like goads, and like nails firmly fixed are the collected sayings; they are given by one Shepherd. 12 My son, beware of anything beyond these. Of making many books there is no end, and much study is a weariness of the flesh.”

The same word occurs in 1 Samuel 13:21 but it is translated as hoes. Sadly I don’t know any Hebrew and so I can’t verify — is it possible this means the wooden “plank” part of a yoke for oxen? If it refers to the plank then it’s no longer a mixed metaphor (the nails are driven into the plank).
