If I understand correctly, some have proposed--in differing, and not necessarily agreeing ways--that the Roman empire created Christianity as a means of diffusing rebellion.
But the Roman empire was not always friendly to Christians.
Beyond that, what were they capable of doing?
And what about counter evidence?
The Roman empire had some skills. One innovation was their ability to create harbors using concrete under water.
But compared to Greek philosophy and drama, not so much.
Their elephant in the room: the Roman army.
Submit or die.
So that is one reason why I currently consider proposals that some imagined Roman psychological operations department created Christianity to be nonsense.
