Clement's Letter to Theodore supports the idea that there were two editions of Mark prior to his composition of Secret Mark in Alexandria.

But when Peter died a martyr, Mark came over to Alexandria, bringing both his own notes and those of Peter, from which he transferred to his former books the things suitable to whatever makes for progress toward knowledge. Thus he composed a more spiritual Gospel for the use of those who were being perfected.
The plural in "his former books" is an unfortunate typo. The original Morton Smith’s translation has "book" and that is correct because the Greek word is indeed in singular: βιβλίον. You can check it here or here (both websites have two identical English translations but one has this typo, the other doesn't.
