I agree; Mark has had a later airbrushing of the synoptics to lessen the conflict of Paul with Christianity.i don't buy the theory the core of Mark is Pauline. it does have a slight Pauline airbrushing but lacks any real pauline doctrines.
I'd go further; the Faulines are downright anti-Christian and are explicitly Marcian:So it's not only "such texts wouldn't mention the gospels even if they existed": the Faulines are explicitly ant-Christian, and explicitly Marcian.we also see the other side, the epistles and pastorals being unaware of the gospels... but that fits the pauline idea of no gospel jesus.. such texts wouldn't mention the gospels even if they existed and had Mark truly been 'Pauline' and in-house they would reference the gospels, but no.
Which is a problem: I went to a website recently of a big Pentacostal megachurch and they had a Statement of Faith that cited scripture to justify each point. There were about 15 points and I think 14/15 citations were to the Faulines, only one to Matthew. It was pure Marcionism2.0 - washing themselves in the blood of a dead god to get rid of sin.
