Some older publications sometimes give the impression that the author is speaking of figures like Achilles or Agamemnon as if they were historical people but it's hard to say whether they actually are committed to historicity or whether they are just speaking from within the framework of the story. In context of Carrier's research, fictionality of these characters is assumed since that seems to be the consensus position in academia.I've always wondered why Heracles, Jason, Moses, Theseus, etc. are treated as 100% fictional (by some people).
